Hand Care 101…

August 19th, 2010

Hand care seems to be one of the biggest topics in the gym.  Taking care of your hands must be made a priority.  The amount of time it takes to care for your hands is minimal compared to how long it takes for ripped hands to heal.  To be completely honest…”Stop being lazy and take care of your hands!”  I am not a fan of gloves in the gym so I make it a point to always shave my calluses.  Plus I think chalk feels better than gloves.  Take a look at these videos.  This is some great information on proper hand care.

How long have you been CrossFitting? I started in Dec/Jan and stopped for a couple months but came back in May.
What are you most proud of? Training for 18 months to finish my first Ironman last November.
What is your favorite exercise? Pull-ups. My goal is to be able to do pull ups without using a band so I practice almost every time I come to the gym.
Least favorite exercise? BURPEES!
How has Crossfit changed your life? When I came to Full Strength in May I was just fresh out of a divorce and very broken. I wanted a change, a challenge and a way to to release some personal pain. From the moment I walked in the door Gayle and Jen were rooting for me, wanted to help me, and pushed me past the limitations I put on myself. Even now they continue to push me right up to the edge of what I think I can do. Crossfit has given me confidence and strength in myself. Strength that is not just physical, but mental too. When I start to feel defeated or like I don’t have the strength to get through my day I just remember some of the things I’ve overcome at the gym and remember that YES…I AM strong enough! Crossfit is my way of life now. Without it I don’t feel complete. I feel like I’ve cheated myself out of all that life has to offer me.
What advice would I give a new member? Don’t give up! No matter how intimidating some of the workouts look – don’t stop! Put yourself out there to succeed because you will!
